Begin with the Intermediate lessons...you will be printing out statistics several times during the month of January for grading.

December 12:

Excel Worksheet:
1. Choose 3 stocks to study

2. Create an Excel spreadsheet for each stock with the following info 52 week High
52 week low
Current price

3. Make 3 graphs, one for each stock including the info from #2

4. Make sure to add a chart label and axis labels as well

5. Put your name on the spreadsheet and print out
6. When you are finished go to the Keyboarding link above and set up a new account for yourself and begin practicing


December 5:
All Students today is the day your Word/Publisher test is due...by the end of class.

Grade 6-7-8:
Choose 3 stocks you would like to study using Yahoo Finance ( Stock Market Game tab)
Make sure you know what the company does...
Make sure you know the current price...
Make sure you know how the company has been doing..over the past 3 months and over the past year.
We will be using stock information to create a spreadsheet in Excel.

November 28, 2012:
Please work to finish up your NHD projects...today is the last Computer Class day devoted to NHD. Once you have finished begin working on the December test, you will find the info under Tests and Quizzes. This test is due NO LATER than end of class Dec 5th. Next week we will talk about how to read the Yahoo Finance site. For grades 7-8 this will be a review...for grade 6 this info will be new. You will need to understand how to read the basics about a stock from this site to complete the Excel assignment for Dec 12 and 19. If you have finished the test you may begin researching 3 stocks you would like to follow for the Excel assignment. You will find a link for Yahoo Finance under the Stock Market page.


Throughout the month of November students in grades 6-7 will have Computer time in class to work on their NHD project. Students in grade 8 will be working on The Call of the Wild...see page above. As I begin to put in grades for Q2 please refer to the rubric page above as it will give information about the assignments that students have been working on first quarter. Students will have time in class until Dec 5th to finish any work they are missing as well as to take the Word and Publisher Test and turn it in. December 12 and 19th we will be working on Excel.

1. Finish work in Publisher about your Day in History

This project will be due today at end of class .

2. Take your picture with an iPad and save it to Dropbox...Go to Computer #1 and print your picture. Staple your picture to your printed Publisher Newsletter and turn in.


3. Try the Ultimate History Quiz 

Next week Grades 6 and 7 will have Computer class time to work on your NHD project. You will be able to work on this in class throughout November. 8th Grade will take the month to work on a Book Club project using Free Books.

For this project we will be using the Newsletter Design Box Template in MS Publisher. With this template we can create a 2-page newsletter about your birthday. There is space for 5 different articles...use a different event from your birthday for each article.

Please finish your Word table and Cover with Border and Pictures. Staple cover to table and turn in by end of class.

For our next project we will be using the Newsletter Design Box Template in MS Publisher. With this template we can create a 2-page newsletter about your birthday. We will be using the History.com site This Day In History

From this history site you can learn about 5 things that happened the day you were born. Please use the Design Box template in Publisher and write about your day. Begin today taking notes and deciding what you will be writing about.

Later this month we will be creating an individual DropBox account make sure you have an email address to use. If you don't ask your parents to help you establish one.

Today we will be finishing the table of the 10 ways wireless/mobile technology is changing our world. In addition to the table please insert a header and a footer. In the header please put a title on  the chart...in the footer please put your name. Below you will find a how to video about headers and footers in Word.
Create a cover in Word for this chart...use pictures and words relating to the article...change fonts and colors and add a border of your choice. Staple this cover to your table make sure your name is on the cover and turn in. This will be the end of our Word review, next week we will be reviewing how to's in Publisher by creating a newsletter.

This is an instructional video on text wrapping a graphic. This can be used with any type of graphic...in this video I am using a piece of Word Art as an example. To create this video I have downloaded Screencast-O -Matic...a free piece of software that lets you capture screen movements as well as your narration. Once captured you can save the video in whatever format you choose to your computer. When I am downloading free software I like to go to CNET and download from there.
Today I would like you to finish the 3 assignments from last week:
1. 6 word memoir Wordle
2. Word document with 6 words in Word Art and the back story for each
3. Your Olympic moment...a paragraph about an Olympic moment you found interesting...please include a picture also
Remember to put your name on all 3 and staple them together and turn in.

1. Do a Wordle of your 6 words and print  (25 pts)

2. Use Word and Create word art of each of your 6 words...do them separately and customize
font color etc (25 pts) and print

3. Write the back story on the same page of what your 6 words mean. (50 pts)

4. When you are finished keep practicing with Typing Web and pull up your Olympic moment from last week...finish writing and print out

Hi Everyone...Welcome Back...here's our plan for today:

1. Log into Typing Web...remember your username is the letter of your first name and complete last name ie...psteiner
Your password is jude. If you did not do any typing this summer you may have to create your user name and password again...you can always put a number 1 after your name ie psteiner1
Practice just for 10 minutes and shake out those typing cobwebs...remember to use the home row position.

2. Check out the Olympic site and look in the Featured Galleries...Top Moments of the Games.
What were your top 2 moments???? Write a paragraph about each one using Word and save as Olympicsyourname. We will look at these next week.

3. 40 wedding hot dog Irish ancestry.....????? That's my summary of my summer.
This is called a 6 Word Memoir...or a recap or memory of your summer in just 6 words.
Write a 6 Word Memoir of your summer in Word and save as memoiryourname. Next week we will write the backstory or explanation of what these 6 words mean. Here's a hint about the "hot dog"...It was a very hot summer and my son John wound up moving home for a short time because of the heat and he brought his dog, Gibson...we had never had a dog before and our cat was not happy....
No need to print anything out today just make sure your work is saved.

I'm sorry to have missed you today...I am in London and Ireland and will be back on Labor Day...looking forward to seeing you all  next week!

February is Valentine's Day, President's Day and Black History Month. Let's look at 2 very different videos about Black History...the first one is from the NBC show Rock Center and gives us the story of Priscilla, a 10 year old black slave. She is unique because her descendants can be traced to present day.
